Current Uni player and UQ Rugby Academy Graduate James Hanson has been selected in the Wallabies 22 man squad to take on Samoa this Weekend. Hanson just 22 years of age is the first Academy player to have been selected in a Wallaby side.

His quality as a player was on display in leading his Club side to a Premiership last year and being an integral member of the all concerning QLD Reds. His great form and high impact play off the bench for QLD has obviously helped him gain selection. Wallaby coach Robbie Deans likes the idea of using Hanson as specialist bench player; he sees this as an area where he can make a significant impact.

James has always been a player that makes the most of his opportunities; let’s hope he can do exactly that when he comes off the bench for his first Wallabies cap. He will also be looking to impress and gain a world cup birth later this year.
